Landing in an airplane always freaks me right out. I had this conversation with my brother Tim awhile ago and we both have the same fear. I think it stems from being tall.
When the airplane lines up for its landing, I always tighten up my lap belt. With the plane bobbing left and right approaching the runway I visualize the plane catching an odd angle and skidding away, or flipping over. Barely fitting into an airplane seat already, if anything did happen I would probably get injured by the seat in front of me where my knees smack into the metal frame, or the headrest that is always right at the base of my neck within perfect snapping distance.
It’s a completely irrational fear I know, but I expect to be tightening my buckle and sitting up straight for many landings to come. It’s just one of those weird phobias for me.
Anyone know the phobia name for that? I’m not afraid of flying, just the 60 seconds before the wheels hit the ground.

So I just landed coming in from NYC about 2 hours ago, it was the worst landing I’ve had and it freaked me out too. I’ve never been in a bank while being the last 25 feet before touch down and I seriously thought the wing would touch first. There was a lot of wind and heavy shifting and I seriously thought it was going to go bad. Definitely not a run of the mill landing.
